first win of the season in imola

On the weekend of the 7 and 8 of May, the second round of the TCR Italy season was held at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola. There were 34 cars on track for the second race of the most competitive national TCR championship in the world.

An uncertain weather characterized the whole weekend, but the wet tires were used only on Friday for the free practices. In the first session, under the rain, Carlo finished in fourth position without taking any risks, but still showing an excellent speed even in wet conditions. In FP2, after a few laps on wet tires, almost all the drivers opted for slicks on the front thanks to a track that started to dry. Carlo finished the session in third position ending the day Friday without mistakes and collecting important data for his team MM Motorsport.

Saturday morning it was time for the qualifying, held on a dry track but with little grip due to the rain of the night. Carlo with a bit of bad luck was not able to improve his time with the second set of new tires, but the previous lap was still enough for a fantastic third position.

In race 1 on Saturday afternoon, after the start, Carlo concentrated on tire management in view of the last laps. Two safety cars favored the opponents, but this did not discourage the 17-year-old. On the last lap, after being in third position for the whole race, the first two drivers had a contact, as predicted by Carlo. At the braking of the Rivazza the driver from Mantova was able to take the first position and to conquer his first victory in TCR Italy, after having set the fastest lap of the race.

Sunday came the turn of race 2, characterized as always by the start with inverted grid. After a lightning start after lights out, Carlo drove most of the race in fourth position, before losing it due to a small mistake at the restart after the safety car. In the final stages the 17 year old was fighting for the podium but, due to a red flag, the race was shortened and he then ended in fifth position.

A really positive weekend, in which Carlo has collected more points than all the other drivers of TCR Italy, moving up to third position in the overall standings. It should not be forgotten that for the whole weekend his Honda Type R was weighed down by 40kg of compensation weight, ballast that did not prevent him from getting important results. The next appointment is at Misano World Circuit in the first weekend of June for the third round of the TCR Italy Touring Car Championship.
