After a great debut in Monza last season, winning in the Coppa Italia Turismo on his debut, Carlo Tamburini is preparing to face a new challenge on board the Honda Civic TCR of MM Motorsport.
The 17-year-old from Mantova will race in the six rounds of TCR Italy 2022, followed step by step by the MM Driving Academy.
"I'm training hard: gym, simulator and when I can on track. Franco Girolami and all the guys at MM Driving Academy are helping me in an incredible way for what will be my first season in TCR“ Carlo said. After a long apprenticeship in the world of karting, at only 16 years old he made his debut on track with a Formula 4, becoming immediately the protagonist in the TopJet series, and then made his debut in the TCR world winning in Monza and surprising everyone.
"The race in Monza was something incredible, extraordinary. A great first step but I know that TCR Italy will be more difficult, I have a lot to learn and I'm working hard. I'm sure I can do well here too".
His family, starting with his father, has always followed the young Carlo's career: "My family, together with the companies that have supported me over the years, have been and are fundamental in my goal to become a pro racing driver one day, but I know that I still need a main sponsor. Also because this year's program could still have some interesting surprises in store".
Emanuele Alborghetti, team manager of MM Motorsport: "Last year Carlo surprised everybody. We knew he was competitive but no one could imagine that at his debut on a TCR, at only 16 years old, debuting in the Coppa Italia Turismo, he could get two victories. And moreover in the wet! It was incredible! It's a sign that the teachings of our MM Driving Academy courses are all going in the right direction".
"Now an even bigger and more demanding challenge awaits Carlo, but he's 17 years old and very talented to bring home excellent results. And maybe show up in other contexts as early as this year. We'll see!"
Carlo has already started testing on track to prepare for the TCR Italy season, ready to kick off at Monza next April 24.
