The driver from Mantova takes fifth overall and becomes vice-champion of the Italian TCR Under25 Championship
Vallelunga, 19.09.22 - Carlo Tamburini ends the 2022 season of the Italian TCR Championship with a good weekend at Vallelunga. It's time to sum up the season for the driver from Mantova, who after conquering the Rookie title, already from the Mugello round, was waiting for the last round of the championship for the officialization of the overall and Under25 standings. The Team MM Motorsport driver, on the strength of his victory at the Imola track, qualified fifth in the overall championship standings and became vice-champion for the Under25 category of TCR.
"From the beginning of the weekend we worked hard, especially with the changing track conditions. We were competitive right from the start and then ended up placing sixth on the grid for Race1. Then we spent a lot of time under the safety car and the result for me remained the same."
Vallelunga being a track that Tamburini has already had the opportunity to get to know, both through testing with the MM Motorsport team car and in a race in the Formula 4 category, he was comfortable from the start of the weekend, despite the difficulty in finding the perfect setup for the track conditions. Starting in Race 1 from a good position, he was able to finish the race sixth.
"On Sunday, for Race2 on the other hand, I started third, but unfortunately on the second straight of the track I was hit and the rim broke, forcing me to return to the pits to change tires. Fortunately, I managed to get out of the pits in time to avoid being lapped by the group behind the Safety Car. At the restart then I managed to do a lot of overtaking in a short time and crossed the finish line thirteenth - explained Tamburini. I am very happy with this season: fifth in the overall standings in my Rookie year. Not to mention that I am the only Honda rider to have won a race all season, and that counts a lot for me. I thank my team because they always put in a lot of effort. Besides the final result, I learned a lot both in terms of race management and in my relationship with the engineers. I am sure that I am stronger than at the beginning of the year."
With this season over, Tamburini will look to the future knowing that he has done well in this experience in TCR, with very important goals achieved that add to his palmares. Now Carlo is ready for new challenges.
